On Monday, at the opening of the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple is expected to announce three things that will have profound impact on iPhones.
- Mac OS X Lion, the new computer operating system.
- iOS 5, the new operating system for the iPhone and iPad.
- iCloud, a service that will allow users with to access all their media (movies, music, and more) using any Apple-registered device. Rather than selecting media to store on the device, and syncing it, you’d have access to anything you own, anytime, anywhere. Macworld’s Lex Friedman thinks iCloud could be even more ambitious, performing like Dropbox to synchronize work files and improving the reliability of iCal syncing.
In a perfect world, these components will interact seamlessly. But what about times when your iPad or iPhone doesn’t have a good network connection to access media from iCloud? And will older computers or older iPads and iPhones be able to take full advantage of the new system?
